1. Projected Population - 2006 (38,624) to 2016 (81,624) - 43,000 extra people

2a. Council is committed to the ongoing improvement of recreation and leisure facilities & services for our residents
2b. There is a strong demand by older adults for improved access to indoor, multipurpose flexible, community recreation and sporting space
2c. There is a continued need to provide affordable recreation opportunities for disadvantaged people
2d. There is a continued need to provide recreation opportunities for people with a disability.
Facts - Craigieburn Basketball
1) Craigieburn Basketball has:
28 Junior Championship teams,
3 Senior Championship,
28 Senior Domestic,
22 Junior Domestic, and
130 Junior Clinic members.
We compete for the use of the three basketball courts at the Craigieburn Leisure Centre with:
Craigieburn Netball
Local Kinder Gym
Tap Dancing
School Socials
Badminton
Cricket (Winter training)
School Holiday programs
McDonalds Hoop Time
Sunday Ethnic basketball Comp.
CLC must cater for all these sporting groups in their charter.
2) Craigieburn Leisure Centre was opened in 1979; most recent upgrade was in 1993, 14 years ago!!
3) Craigieburn Basketball cannot field any further junior basketball teams in 2007 due to a lack of court access / availability.
4) Craigieburn Basketball pays the Hume Council $73,000 per year for limited access to the only three basketball courts at the centre.
5) Hume City Council has increased the court hire costs by average 4% per year for the last four years.
What we need
Craigieburn Basketball desperately needs the council to provide two or more additional basketball courts to cater for the growing youth population. Plans for additional sporting resource have been stalled and we need to petition the Council for urgent action. |
