Craigieburn Eagles

Craigieburn last night took out Grand Final Game 2 at Hawthorns home venue, Xavier College, to be crowned 2006 BigV Div2 Womans Champions!!!
Craigieburn started the game at a cracking pace, showing no signs of finals nerves and full of confidence. The first quarter saw Hawthorn shoot under average with 4/18 FGA (22.2%) and Craigieburn at 7/15 (46.7%).
Craigieburn took control in the second quarter to rally and outscore Hawthorn 16 to 8, ending the first half at 35 - 22. Again, Craigieburn's depth of talent showed here, with the Eagles outscoring Hawthorn 16 -11.

The last quarter showed why Hawthorn were minor premiers, with Amanda Champion coming on to shoot two quick 3 pointers to put Hawthorn within five points of creating a game 2 upset, outscoring Craigieburn 25 - 16. However, the Eagles steadied in the final minutes of the last quarter, Jacinta Scott nailing 12 from 16 free throws to ensure Craigieburn remained in control for the last minute and taking out the Championship. Scott and Davenport top scored for the Eagles with 16 each. Tracey Tuesley, who took out the MVP for the Finals series ended the game with 14 points , 11 rebounds. Kylie Davies again showed her worth to the side with a great effort under the basket. It can now also be known that Tracey Curran played both Games 1 and 2 with a rolled ankle, and was severely restricted in her ability to turn and jump, but in typical Curran fashion, played a pivotal role in both games to help the team become 2006 Premiers.
Junior Breannan Small also showed why she will become a valuable future Craigieburn player.

Coach Taylor was ecstatic last night post game, "the girls have really showed why they were the team to fear this season, their runs of successive wins right through the final stage of the season really set the scene for the team to have a confident run at League Minor Premiers Hawthorn.".
The girls took their weary bodies back to the Prestia's for a post game get together; most crashing where they fell, but a great night was had by all.

"EAGLES STRIVE TO ACHIEVE"
